“How could they see anything but the shadows, if they were never allowed to move their heads?”
—Plato, The Republic
Hi Friends! Thank you so much for joining us on this endeavor. We are proud to present to you: Fishbowl Sonata. An original play written, directed, designed, and starring current CalArts students. In order to turn our vision into reality—and give justice to the stories being told—we humbly ask for your love and support.
Project description: Fishbowl Sonata is an augmented retelling of the gruesome case of the Fritzl family. By following the strict structure of a Sonata, this play rhythmically unfolds the unprecedented tragedy of this case layer by layer. We see profound discussions of philosophical fallacies, astronomical constants, and sociological dilemmas, all through the child-like lenses of the victims. The narrative lies between childplay and academia, grace and ugliness, and between past and future; it exists in a reality of its own, as well as the ones beyond and below our own horizons. Sit down, relax, and let the sonata tell its story.
Our project has an original script, full cast, and design team ready to start composing this up-and-coming play, and we can’t wait to share this work with the lovely Fringe audience friends. Thank you, and let the Sonata begin!
