How energetic, fun and spontaneous the performance was.
What I didn't like
As far as the performers are concerned there’s really not much that is worth mentioning when talking about serious improvement. As far as the show is concerned I think it may be interesting to see the 3 performers maybe try and pull audience to do some improv with them at some point in the show. Could prove a really fun challenge that yields high comedic rewards. It has to be a VERY specific type of improv game or scene otherwise it’ll be awkward but maybe there’s a sweet spot they could explore.
My overall impression
As quick and quippy as their name Penny Stinkers; Patrick Steward, Thomas Steward and Jordan Knapp deliver improv comedy so masterfully you’ll feel like it’s rehearsed!
Working under the tutelage and instruction of The Groundlngs’ Suzanne Kent, these three performers do well more than the bare minimum when it comes to improv comedy. It may be a simple formula: Suzanne sets the scene, takes suggestions from the audience, and Patrick, Thomas, and Jordan craft the comedy on the spot; but what takes it beyond that simple formula is the layers, nuances, and dynamics involved as the actors not only take what they’re given, but expand on it in ways that make you go “how on Earth did we get here?” All the while you’re wiping away the tears from all the laughter. In addition to their talents, their chemistry with each other and the audience is unmatched as well, and it’s what makes this show even more special. They’ll make you feel right at home as if they were just performing for you in your own living room. Don’t walk, RUN to see them do their thing – whether it be at Hollywood Fringe or anywhere else they’re performing.
