Nigel Miles-Thomas presents the level of acting talent I always hope to encounter in a Fringe show, but rarely do. He has a mastery of British accents and mannerisms that consumes your attention like a camel drinking at an oasis, and is twice as refreshing. The script illuminates incidents that will be well recognized to Holmes fans, and mixes them with astonishing insights the author – a true Holmes historian – has divined from years of research. When we meet Holmes as a child or Lestrade as an old man, all is authentically and exquisitely considered through literature’s keenest eye.
What I didn't like
More, please! So many fascinating characters are only sketched with a few lines when I would have been delighted to see them given the full treatment afforded to Watson or Moriarty.
My overall impression
Spot on! I have never seen a more evocative portrayal of the Great Detective, and several of his friends and enemies as well. I was riveted, and could have watched for hours.
