What I liked
The Sleep-Away camp aspect! I never had the chance to attend camp, so it was a great window into what that experience was like. Especially as she aged every Summer, it was fun to see her navigate camp at different ages.
I thought the direction and staging was great, using such a small space fully, and lighting specific spots to delineate movement. Very inventive and effective.
Loved the writing. Michelle was able to weave in humor, and even in the darkest moments her writing allowed the audience to laugh when needed to release the tension. Very impressive.
What I didn't like
I think it all worked! No constructive criticism at this time.
My overall impression
Keeper was a revelation! I watched actress and writer Michelle Murphy journey through the joys and terrors of adolescence, and now as an adult how those unique experiences (that we all have) have shaped her. I laughed at the foibles, and I cried with her for the moments of isolation and fear. It was a great performance, brilliant staging, great use of minimal sets and lighting. Loved the show! Five Stars!
