The flow and use of transitions felt just right. The timing and direction really served the show and message well. I found the use of props and stage dressing to be perfect, enough to get the picture, set the stage, and get the point across. I was glad I had an opportunity to read Josiah’s message in the program before the show. It was an excellent precursor.
What I didn't like
I didn’t find myself wanting or missing anything. Though I think the size of the playing space was perfect, I’d love to see this show performed for more patrons. More people need to see Josiah and “Flayed.”
My overall impression
“Flayed” was truly an accurate representation of its presenter; it was smart, genuine, compelling, and hot. I would see it again in a heartbeat. Josiah shines a brilliant spotlight on the nature of being a young queer in rural Appalachia compounded by the hurdles of a religious upbringing. The humor and delivery were brazen and rightfully so. Josiah is a joy to behold on stage, from his clever character work to his salacious storytelling, “Flayed” is Josiah in his element.
