What I liked

I loved the grounded reality of the young pastor’s through line that led us into his personal struggles in such a dear, relatable, lovable way. All the characters that Josiah so brilliantly weaved through the arc of the hero’s journey were so wild weird and wonderful that there was not a moment that I was not on the edge of my seat. The audience was called upon to interact and it made us all feel on board to root for and help the main character win. It was touching and real, in a very visceral sense. Anyone who has experienced religious trauma and homophobia in the church will be deeply affected in the most activating and healing of ways. Congrats to Josiah for commenting on this very dangerous religious practice towards queer youth in an irreverent yet poetic and profound way. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

What I didn't like

I suspect that Josiah hadn’t written his real lines on the “cue cards” he used throughout his sermon which led me to believe he had memorized his lines which seems like cheating but whatever. I’m willing to forgive.

LOLOL GOT U HE WAS PERFECT

My overall impression

This show was BELLY LAUGHS funny. I had tears in my eyes the entire time from laughing so much. At times touching, at times scandalous, and other times just plain ol’ hilarious. Josiah has written a perfect show to highlight his strengths as a performer and entertain a fully engaged audience on a queer cultural topic that needs to be acknowledged and rectified.
