I grew up a gay church kid. For as long as I can remember, I’ve found men attractive and for as long as I remember, that made me feel different and ostracized. Hearing so much of my internal monologue verbalized like this was powerful, hysterical, a little triggering, and deeply cathartic. To me, this show was a reminder of why great art is so important. We all have different voices in our heads telling us to be different things. Josiah took his voices and made them sing. He took all that spiritual anguish and turned it into something wonderful, and for a while there, all my voices felt heard. You can’t put a price on that. ... full review

I found this show to be deeply brave, moving, hilarious, witty, exciting, disturbing, utterly fantastic and pretty genius. It moved, it kicked, it punched and I just really can't say how impressed and excited I am to see work at this caliber. It was kind of everything to be honest. Josiah is a unique talent. ... full review

What a masterpiece one man show. The quality of writing, directing, and other creative choices made me forget it was really just one man and an audience. What made it so special is its capacity to make us laugh through tears while witnessing an emotional collapse and internalized homophobia. The most fun I’ve had in a long time ... full review

Unsurprisingly knowing Josiah’s body of work, it was spectacular! Flayed brought an intimate look from the lens of personal conflict, relationship and elimination of character that goes with religious conditioning. His weaving of biblical and mythological stories to tell his experiences through a myriad of characters and voices associated with his identity were chucked full of truth and feeling anyone could relate to. Each character moved effortlessly in there physical and spiritual embodiments and transitioned artistically tuned with its sound designer and choreography. Flayed was and is, simply a masterpiece of the one man show one can only hope to discover in LA theatre. ... full review
