What I liked

Each character’s story was engaging in it’s own unique way. I enjoyed getting to watch a show that had queer representation and was a fine example of what queer joy can look like onstage. I was invested in these characters journeys. Michaela Spellman’s grounded presence and take on Dawn was very beautiful to watch. Her connection with her scene partners helped to tell a story and solidify relationships between characters. Jason Pollack, who played Stone, was able to fill up the space vocally and physically with a honed stage presence. Michaela Skaribas created the charming character, Willow, who was easy to love and relate to. Overall, I appreciated seeing how each actor took on these characters and brought them to life.

What I didn't like

I feel that the music itself needed a fuller sound supporting the melody and chord progressions. I think the addition of other instruments and potential underscoring would help further the storytelling. I also think that placing actors closer together (physically) while they sing would help those harmonies lock in a bit more and would help everyone feel more confident and able to sing more in unison. While I could hear the actors when they were singing, I had some trouble hearing them in scenes. Working on chewing through words and projecting would be a quick fix! These blackbox-esk spaces are deceiving and suck up a lot of sound. The story is there and is one I am truly invested in as an audience member and I am excited to see how this show will grow in the future as it continues to be developed!

My overall impression

This was a beautiful coming of age show. It was quite captivating and I often found myself falling into the world of the show.
