What I liked
The puppeteers brought so much life and joy to the show. The mastery of complex choreography and exciting music is truly something to behold. The show is a great example of why having actors on stage with their puppets should be seen more often.
What I didn't like
There were some characters from the prequel show “Rescue Rue” who make an appearance in this show but their presence felt out of place from someone who has never seen the prequel. Though the song and performance were a joy it left me wishing we had seen more of them or perhaps I had seen the prequel.
My overall impression
“Runaway Rue” is a charming family friendly show that will have adults and children rolling with laughter alike. The puppetry and songs are so charming and catchy that you will find yourself humming the songs as you leave the theater and wanting to come back for more. The message is about finding your home in others instead of a place, which is a lesson all of us need reminding of sometimes.
