The costumes, while simple, were so very effective in setting the mood and supporting the character changes. Each character was so different from the other that while the mood of each act changed wildly, it took little time to be transported. The breaking of convention in the last scene, turning from character to self was such a brilliant shift and incredibly touching.
What I didn't like
Some of the references in the second act (with Loki’s protector) were a little harder to follow, though perhaps that reflects more on my lack of background in that mythological universe.
My overall impression
Monsters was quite a journey, each act standing on its own while building very creatively on the theme. The combination of symbolism and memoir made for a very memorable experience.
