I’m familiar with Josh Sobel’s work from Chicago, and the intimacy of the storefront style is a major strength for this take on The Seagull. The translation is fresh and modern, and the performances are lovingly crafted. A fantastic example of how Chekhov can break your heart and make you laugh out loud all in the same breath.
What I didn't like
The alley staging can make some sightlines difficult if you’re not seated in the front row.
My overall impression
Don’t let the run time scare you! A truly beautiful production, my favorite of the Fringe so far.
