A few of the actors shined… Shana, Roxy, the guy playing numerous small parts, and SYNERGY (she made this show!!!) , The Costumes!!!!! (I really felt the costumes were so well done —- except Kimber’s), did I say Synergy?!!! The slap bracelets were cute. The preshow music was fun, the venue is great…
What I didn't like
It’s bad when you hear a song coming and think “oh, please don’t sing”. 85% of the songs need work, the casting of rio and JEM seemed odd, the plot of stormer and kimber was great but a bit heavy handed, honestly write something fresh about this show – it felt written by memes on a subreddit- please instead of taking the pilot episode and lightly poking fun at it and calling it a parody. The biggest pet peeve about the show was JEM’s wig – it looked straight out of the package – this is 1985 tease that wig make it look better and less floppy… I am in support of this show – I want it to be good and will be the first person to buy a ticket and line up if you make big changes and remount this show but I was very disappointed- so, disappointed I had to review it for the sake of the creative team so it can be improved
My overall impression
This felt like going to a production put on by a summer camp. There were a few fun moments but as a huge JEM fan, the thing I love so much about JEM is the music was good and this show I wish had zero musical numbers. I applaud anyone doing fringe and all the work that clearly went into the show – I just wished it was better…
