First, I’ve got to say that the title threw me off though it is absolutely perfect for the topic of this play. Dahn Hiuni has crafted a step by step trip through Gay History detailing how one man with friends and determination took being Gay from a sickness to be just another way of expressing our sexuality. Fighting for the chance to face off with the leading religious-based psychiatrist of the day, we learn that giving a face to homosexuality by someone outside of those who, beaten down by society, had turned to psychiatrist in hopes of being cured…showed there was a whole world of gays who loved being gay and had no desire to be cured…It also proved that many, many of those psychiatrists were fighting their own demons in choosing that profession.
The cast was brilliant, especially the one female actor who portrayed every woman in the show… She was amazing.
What I didn't like
As with any piece of historical drama, when one wants to stick to the facts…sometimes a bit of the excitement needed to be amped up.
