This past weekend I had the pleasure of seeing the play SICK at the Fringe Film Festival. This is a must see play for today’s youth and history buffs as it looks back on homophobia at the dawn of the gay rights movement, a transition between what was then and that which followed. Some scenes are hard to watch, such as electroshock therapy being used as a “cure” homosexuality to a highly respected gay psychiatrist having to wear a mask to address an audience of his peers. But these things happened. And they can happen again. The cast and crew of SICK have done a great job of reminding us of the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before us. This is an extremely important story and only one of a countless number of stories of pers... full review

This was a beautiful piece of theater. Each of the actors truly delivered. The story is so timely. I was impressed by the lead actor who portrayed the nervous, odd energy of a man traumatized by his upbringing and being his authentic self during this time in history and fighting his/our fight. I loved the directors choice to have two characters who had the most courage in this story ( Dr Fryer & Dr Spitzer)be played by the same actor. This actor was a stand out for me as was the actor playing Barbara Gittings and Robs mother... full review

Absolutely timely and relevant. With the political climate today with so much anti trans and anti LGBGQ happening in this country it is an important play. It shows us how far we have come in the field of psychiatry what struggles it took to over come it and a clear warning of how dangerous arrogance and narrow mindedness is... full review

Fast-paced, excellent dramatization of the 1973 removal of "being gay" from the book used for diagnoses by mental health professionals up to that time. Gay and straight characters talking it out and coming to the right decision, despite the hatred of Charles Socarides, the most evil mental health person from that era whose book is still used by conversion "therapists" even though it is universally seen as hateful, misguided (bad science) tripe.... full review

It's so unfair for me to say this but I saw it on a Wednesday evening when the understudy for the main actor, playing Ron Gold filled in. I just had it in my head that this was probably his first performance. Of course, I cannot compare his performance to the regular actor. The understudy was fine as far as I could see. The show was quite moving and informative. Certain scenes were more powerful than others. It's been a few weeks now, since I saw the show, but the scene where she tries to convince the psychiatrist to come out at the upcoming conference (in Dallas I believe) and he agrees but with a mask on was powerful. Then the scene where he does speak and them removes his mask during his speech. I assume this was true, but I hav... full review
