What I liked
The premise.
What I didn't like
The script: 1. Character development. How do the characters grow or change? 2. Plot revision. How can the heart of the story be told without traumatizing the actors & the audience? What would it look like to center trans joy instead of trans violence?
My overall impression
As a Black trans writer, this play was overwhelmingly disappointing & socially irresponsible. The plot was driven by shock value & trauma porn. We sat through domestic violence, an involuntary blowjob aka RAPE, persistent transphobic & homophobic slurs, a pedophile confession…only to end in yet another death???? Who was this play for? Where was the care for the audience? We didn’t even get a content warning. This play was heartbreaking for everyone I came with.
