Hope Golds is clearly an acting talent, and the writing and melodies were beautiful.
What I didn't like
I thought the direction did not offer much more than a very basic presentation of the work, rather than an opportunity to show creativity and style in direction, to support and lift up the performers, and give the audience a “show”. As a piece, it could have had more creativity, shape, originality, in the transitions between sections, in the staging of the actors/use of the space, and as well the shows momentum toward the final song.
My overall impression
Beautiful writing, gently dealing with multiple social issues, in a sensitive, deep way. Beautiful songs. And a stand-out, truthful, tender performance by Hope Golds.
