About the Project
Dr. Gisella Perl experienced some of the most horrific things ever dreamt up by humanity.
“Gisi Doctor,” as she eventually came to be known by the women in the camp, was a doctor in Auschwitz. Upon discovering her specialty, Gynecology, Dr. Mengele ordered her to report all pregnant women in the camp to him. Dr. Gisi faced moral and ethical dilemmas regarding her oath as a doctor to “do no harm,” as a prisoner of war, and as a person of immense faith.
Despite her experiences, she remained hopeful and completely committed to her faith.
