I was worried I wouldn’t get the jokes in this play, but I needn’t have worried. I laughed all the way through, but what I’ll remember even more than that is how amazing the music was. 8 piece band, tremendous cast, a huge epic story of good and evil, love and loss. Yes, it’s all played for comedy, but it’s actually quite moving. And the opera thing isn’t really an out-and-out joke: when I think opera, I think about people using non-English language and boy is this stuff not English. But the meaning behind it pervades. A really remarkable achievement and a hugely enjoyable theatrical accomplishment.
