LOLPERA

I could not care less about LOLcat photos...except for the fact that the whole ridiculous phenomenon engendered 'LOLPERA', which is far more than just an exercise in composing an opera (yes, this is a genuine opera) with libretto amassed from LOLcat captions. It's a masterstroke to create from this nonsense a cogent, fun, and even exciting a cautionary tale about looking for meaning in a realm of memeful meaningless. Plus, the music is great, the cast is fabulous top to bottom, and the whole thing is just frigging hilarious.... full review

This show is wonderfully created, witty and original. Ive been fortunate enough to see it grow from long beach to hollywood and it still is full of surprises that had me almost fall out of my seat a few times. having a bad day have a lol with this amazing show you won't be disappointed!... full review

Saw this amazing show last Sunday, the 10th. What a thrill ride it was. Combines all forms of music from Wagner, to Pop, to Rap and explores relationships, Faust, Book of Revelations, cats, and finding da cheezburger. You do not want to miss this. LOLPERA is current, fresh and hip. The LOL Cats on the screen combined with musical performance, ensamble cast, singing, dancing, choreography, cats, more cats and lolwalrus makes it SO meta, one has to be really careful not to lose his/hers shit when LOLing in the theatre! "Lolpera" is brilliant! Part of brilliance is picking what to write about, and Andrew and Ellen have definitely caught the zeitgeist of the moment and written about it masterfully. This show is so good that in a year I expect it to be on Broadway at ticket prices I cannot afford. If you haven't seen it yet, let Basement Cat assimilate you to catch it wherever and whenever you can. It'll be in New York in August.
