My overall impression
I saw this show during a preview. It stuns me how much money the Taper and Ahmanson put into productions, when there are little no frills gems like Sister Cities playing proudly in tiny theatres. This sparse production at The Underground did not disappoint. I just read the Backstage LA Theatre review and agree wholeheartedly. While I did not see the 2006 production, I cannot imagine anyone else in these roles as these five actresses embraced the characters marvelously. Colette Freedman’s witty rapid fire dialogue left me laughing one moment and devastated the next. This is a tightly structured play which takes the audience on a devastatingly brilliant journey and I applaud the all female cast and crew for creating a truly wonderful theatrical experience.
