My overall impression

SEE THIS PLAY!

Joe Mahon is an incredible talent!

This hysterically funny send-up of the seedy backroom drama of the casting industry is well-worth the price of admission.

Why, you ask?

There is more to these characters than meets the eye. As each character spoke about the others (who we would inevitably meet later on in the show), I began to roll my eyes at how cliche they each began to sound.

“Oh boy, so we’re going to meet a knuckle-head from Brooklyn. Oh boy, we’re going to meet a spineless Brit.”

I COULDN’T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG.

Mahon does not sacrifice the integrity of these human beings (I say human beings and not characters for a reason) for the sake of a few cheap laughs. Instead, he upends our preconceived expectations with nuanced, complex character studies – which makes the whole thing even more genuinely funny.

Mahon also raises many important questions about performance and artistic and professional integrity. This play has a brain as well as a heart.

It’s an efficient little machine that packs a powerful punch and is fueled by Mahon’s incredible energy and wonderful eye for detail.

Not many performances left – grab a ticket now!
