What I liked

Charlotte’s ability to let people into her life through this work and the reliving of her stories was inimitable, and I watched the entire show with my jaw dropped. I felt the love she had for every bit of the play, and it shined through every tragedy and every smile. Her interactions with her mother, especially in the last scene, brought the purest joy to me and made me sob like I was in a Pixar movie.

What I didn't like

I genuinely would love to see this play fully produced with a set and a different space that would allow Charlotte to move more freely and create even clearer locations for her memories. She did a phenomenal job of pantomiming and bringing us into every room, and I want to see her without the limitations of a very small stage and close wall.

My overall impression

Looking Past Loss was one of the most incredible experiences of intimate theatre I’ve had in so many years. Charlotte is genuinely brilliant in her writing, acting, and storytelling. She made such heart-filled and radiant memories of pain, loss, love, and everyday joy so insanely universal through their specificity. I didn’t realize how much I needed to see this play, and I cherished every bit of it.
