Stevens’ has written a concise journey from teenage angst to young adulthood redemption – full of wit, intrigue, and forays into cinematic masterpieces as both moral lessons and subtle subplots. With just a chair and a push broom, Sheppe fills the stage with energy, rage, humor, and amusement; he entertains the audience with physicality and verbal distinctiveness as he shares with us the multiple characters’ contributions to the plot.
What I didn't like
There were a few threads in the story that could have been expanded and/or woven more fully into the climax. Sheppe’s energy was good throughout, though a few times stretching the emotional highs and lows would have offered more texture to the performance, and given greater distinction between the different characters.
My overall impression
A fun twist on a coming of age story. Lucas Sheppe shines in this one-person show as he weaves the tale of how quitting high school is just the beginning of his “schooling” at his entry-level job and watching classic movies with his dad.
