I loved that Meg invited the audience to see their own selves thru the lens of her story. Calling in areas that one might think only relate to one race yet, recognizing the awkward and crazy things people say that can cause a life time of distrust and pain. The most outlandish comments that as children, we believe — “face down in pillow to be whiter”.
What I didn't like
I would love for the artist to get into the characters more fully with body language and verbiage. When becoming the father… was a a large man or small and feeble? How was the mother’s full character. Even becoming more of herself through the set — allowing the audience to experience her growth through the character would be amazing.
My overall impression
An interactive engagement in truths which left me laughing aloud while shedding tears of awareness of how similar the sting of cultural hurts feel.
