Production values were great – the lighting, fog, costumes and production design really created a Lynchian vibe. They created some detailed moments with lighting, audio and performance all working together, which I know is hard to do on a Fringe schedule.
The cast went for it with energetic performances, dancing and (mostly) good singing. The two lead actresses were especially good at channeling all those dark Lynchian emotions.
In the best moments the show put its own spin on Lynch’s setpieces and themes, remixed them in funny ways, and explored why we like his work so much.
What I didn't like
I did feel like it could be a litttttle more focused (which is often my same criticism of Lynch, lol). There was a cool throughline to the show, but it occasionally got bogged down in “let’s recreate this famous Lynch scene and/or soundtrack moment!” Trim down a couple of the excess musical numbers and the show could be even stronger.
Nothing was bad though, even in the weaker moments this show was still fun. The audience had a blast and if you like you-know-who, you’ll enjoy it as well!
My overall impression
This was a lot of fun. Great production values, some strong performances and some funny and heartfelt riffs on the work of David Lynch.
