Great performance, with outstanding use of the stage and physicalization of the story.
What I didn't like
It’s great that Naylor performs his conversations with others at breakneck speed and gets us through the story; he might think about how to sharpen the differences between the voices of his characters.
My overall impression
Outstanding one-man show, brilliantly performed ! Henry Naylor travelled to Afghanistan to gather material for a Fringe show, accompanied by a friend and an Afghani guide. This is a true-life visit to Afghanistan, with harrowing projected photographs of the stark, nihilistic landscape dotted with the leftover discards of war. Naylor has a commanding stage presence, and uses the stage fully with great blocking and physicalization, and of course, his impressive British (Yorkshire) accent to tell his true-life story, punctuated by flash-forwards to his therapist sessions. Think Spalding Grey if he weren’t confined to a chair. Great show, highly recommended !
