This is probably the best acting I’ve seen on Fringe this year. Almanya’s performance was such a joy to see thanks to her very tight delivery. I felt a very strong connection to her character despite knowing nothing about her, all because she was able to give her emotions the weight they deserve. Both the set and the blocking were pretty simple, which lets you really focus on Khan’s story and the nuances of Almanya’s performance. The show also doesn’t let itself get bogged down with too much drama, as it allows the audience to laugh with Khan as well as suffer alongside her.
What I didn't like
It all worked for me. I realize that there should have been a disembodied Nazi voice talking to Khan throughout the play, but that truly is not needed, and serves more as flavor than anything truly substantive to Almanya’s performance.
My overall impression
If you are looking for Fringe performances with stellar acting, start here! A great way to spend 50mins, wish there were more shows like it (there probably are that I am just not aware of lol)
