I loved the way Austin weaved his own personal story with the history of the AIDS epidemic and the intersections of oppressions that can still exist in “safe” spaces (like San Francisco). He made the audience laugh and then a moment later would open his heart bare.
What I didn't like
The timing was sometimes a little off, but I think some of that was due to opening night – I want to return and see his performance when he’s “in the pocket.”
My overall impression
I was so moved by this performance – from the staging to the music to his storytelling, it was wonderful! Austin excavated his personal history in a way that allowed us all in to go on his journey with him – and end feeling like we were all chosen family together. Highly recommend!
