What I liked

The multi-media was excellent. For only a second staging, I thought they did a good job with the cues and timing, which is complicated for a show like this, even though it only has two cast members. The “Fakespeare” bit was particularly inspired, and like every other scene I saw, as true then as it is now.
His music and his singing are often reminiscent of Bill Joel and Paul McCartney.

What I didn't like

The amount of time Steve is allowed to perform. I was told he was cut off before he could finish his finale during his first performance, despite there being no show afterwards. Because of the short stage time, he is unable to present his show as a full story, and what professional play with big theater aspirations is only 55 minutes long?

My overall impression

Steve Altman has crafted an intelligent, poignant and imaginative musical, and with the time allotted, we were only able to see a portion of it. Steve’s songs are catchy and come from the heart. They alternate being funny, personal, emotional and theatrical, but always excellent.
