A twist of fate brings NYC tough Italian-American, Gabriella Fanelli, & mild mannered Kentucky boy, BJ McCoy together proving that opposites really do attract. After leaving NY for LA to further their careers in the entertainment biz, BJ knows Gabi is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Right before proposing, he finds out by accident that it is very important to Gabi he ask her very judgmental off-the-boat Italian immigrant father and Brooklyn born, larger than life mother for their blessing. This is where the chaos begins as we are introduced to Gabi’s crazy Italian family which also includes her not-so-swift guido brother and her broken English speaking spitfire nonna. Fuel is added to the fire when BJ’s hillbilly Kentucky parents show up uninvited. While BJ’s redneck bear of a dad tries to find common ground with the “family” and fails miserably, it’s apparent that BJ’s sugary sweet southern mom is really on a mission to break up the couple. While cultures collide, the unthinkable occurs when an immediate love connection is formed between Gabi’s brother and BJ’s sweet yet trashy younger sister. After many attempts, BJ tries yet again to ask for the Fanelli’s blessing when Gabi’s priest uncle announces (after one too many swigs of Kentucky moonshine) that he’s leaving the priesthood because he’s gay and marrying his best friend, whom the family has known for years. Thwarted yet again, BJ at his wit’s end says things to get Gabi off the proposal scent which causes her to leave the house heartbroken. It is here the family decides unilaterally after many disagreements, they were wrong to stand in the way of true love and help the couple find their way back to each other.
