What I liked

I love the way Niek transitioned between Tommy on stage and Tommy behind the curtain, showing a duality and vulnerability to a man who the public only ever saw as a comedian. As the show went on, and we learnt more about the man, we were able to see more of his personality in his acts, which began to fuse tragedy with the comedy. simply marvellous.

The finale is legendary.

What I didn't like

I honestly didn’t have any negative notes, I only wish it went longer! Although at the same time I definitely felt as though I got a full story and so perhaps it’s for the best that Niek decided to end the show where he has.

My overall impression

Niek performed wonderfully in his original solo show about the comedy star Tommy Cooper. It was by far the best show I saw in the Fringe and one of the best shows I’ve seen anywhere for a long time. I was hooked the whole time and didn’t want it to end.
