About the Project
A radical , raw nerve production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, filtered through the lens of reality TV, economic anxiety, and contemporary masculinity at war with itself. Stripped down to an hour in length, four actors are trapped in a purgatory of bridling tension, an apartment that becomes a boxing ring, shaking the dust of an affected idea of what abuse, sexuality, and connection look like in a contemporary context. This production aims to smash any English Class notions of a venerated, untouchable Streetcar – and to return to the vitality and electricity that is inherent in the text, stripping away any ideals of what Streetcar “should” be, bringing a Gen Z anxiety, humour, and sensibility to an American classic – “An Uber Named Desire” rather than “A Streetcar Named Desire”.
