An elegant black chanteuse reminisces on how she headlined at the Stork Club, a “high society” nightclub at its height from the 1930’s – 1960’s in spite of the fact that blacks were not welcome. Josephine Baker picketed the establishment with other luminaries (Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor) so that blacks were allowed to perform as well as wine and dine at the club. In this story, Josephine Baker successfully sues the establishment and gains entrance for blacks…although historically she lost the battle. This is a what if story…weaved through musings and song and dance to the favorite jazz standards of the time.
