I loved that the robit was both a metaphor for transness and also ACTUALLYTRANS. I liked that all of the characters had gender presentations that were personal and comfortable and just deeply Part Of Them, instead of being called out and pointed out as “look, a representation” — they felt like lived experiences, and made the show a delight to watch. I loved the music! I’ve been a Doubleclicks fan for a long time and the way an ensemble cast was able to deepen and expand and enrich a kind of music I already liked was breathtaking.
What I didn't like
Some of the sound engineering could have been a bit clearer, but that might have been a livestream problem! I’d love to see a version of this with fuller staging (and maybe an even bigger ensemble/chorus?).
My overall impression
A smart, sweet, funny meditation on gender and humanity.
