I think one really great way to see how hard a cast and crew have worked, is the cues. Do they hit them, consistently and on time? And they did almost every time, and the couple of minor misses didn’t actually affect anything at all. These are seasoned performers, and it’s clear they worked their buttskies off.
But more than that, the question of how much of themselves and their hearts did they bring might be a little more hazy, but is also important. Are they really 100% present, and giving everything to a show they love? Again, I say yes.
What I didn't like
Balancing sound and light and multiple cameras is a really tough job, it’s still relatively new, and when you’re live to both an audience and watchers on a stream, that gets a lot toucher.
The cameras mostly hit their marks, with the odd slow change. But the sound balance and lighting were a little tricky at times.
The differences in volume within the songs were the main issue, they caused some metallic sound at the top end. Not enough to blur the words, but noticeable.
And sometimes the white spotlight, rather than highlighting, almost erased people’s faces instead.
On the whole though, great technical proficiency, nothing here affected my enjoyment one bit.
My overall impression
I loved this show. I already had the soundtrack, and I backed the crowdfund, and today I sat in the UK and watched the stream. And I loved every second.
Filling in the parts between the songs was great, I really liked getting the whole story at last! The cast brought their whole hearts along, it was easy to see how invested they all are in this, which I love to see.
It’s a show by a trans person, written with a trans (and anti-capitalism) theme, and so of course Marsh made me cry with their solo (and then again towards the end they all did)!
