What I liked
Characters and the transitions between characters were on point. The idea that everyone from Northeast Philly has the same accent yet Katierose was able to distinguish between characters was not only impressive but hysterical.
What I didn't like
More of an observation from a fellow Philadelphian, I think a show like this is potentially more effective in conveying it’s overall themes when putting it up in Philadelphia. I think for most Philadelphians, the characters will immediately remind them of their Aunt Maureen or Cousin Ronny so themes like women aren’t allowed to be mad will be able to shine through because these characters are relatable to the audience. For a city like LA people might not fully grasp certain themes because they’re too focused in on these “big” characters. I’m not really sure if that’s something that could be improved but I wouldn’t change a thing. Overall loved it, I will be recommending my family to see it.
My overall impression
After the show, a woman on the street asked if I just came from the show, I replied “Yes I did!” She followed up with, “…didn’t you think it was a little too loud?” My response was, “Not one bit.” My family is from Northeast Philly and Katierose couldn’t have given more of an authentic look into the mind of a woman who has spent her entire life in Fishtown. A true love letter to Philly, I think it’s gonna kill in Philadelphia.
