First of all, Katie Rose is an undiscovered dynamo. She gives a powerhouse preformance that bursts into life and gradually unveils layer after layer of nuance. It’s a story about a neighborhood in Philadelphia that’s currently facing gentrification, which brilliantly reflects the titular character’s challenges and growth. The portrait painted here is that of a true master. You first see colorful broad strokes, but as you settle in and take a step back to see the entire picture you are gifted with an invigorating landscape. You start to notice all the details that went into it. There is such care in every moment, you walk away feeling what’s truly worth feeling: love.
What I didn't like
The only way this show could be improved is for it to be developed for television so the entire world to see.
My overall impression
A love letter to Philly. Spirited with character and weighted in ethos, this piece is not to be missed.
