The staging was excellent yet minimal. MaryLee created many believable characters to tell this story of certain events in her life.

I can think of nothing.
My overall impression
I was impressed and moved by MaryLee Herman’s writing and performance of “Schmaltz & Princie: Diary of a Not-So-Great Daddy’s Girl.” The staging was clever and inventive by director, Jessica Lynn Johnson. It was a raw and vulnerable story of the haunting voices that preoccupy a screenwriter or perhaps any creative artist. In the narrative of her goal to be a Hollywood screenwriter, she also reveals the tale of the relationship with her family, especially her father. This is accomplished in a heartwarming, charming, heartbreaking yet often humorous way. I highly recommend this one-woman show. It was a delightful way to fill an hour of my day. Do yourself a favor and go and see “Schmaltz & Princie: Diary of a Not-So-Great Daddy’s Girl” at the Zephyr Theatre on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. But don’t wait too long, there are only a few performances left. It’s part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
