What I liked
There are two type of solo shows, you’re either playing yourself and telling your own personal stories or you are playing a character or multiple characters. Watching Shelley Cooper tackle the role of Maria Callas is like watching a master class in character commitment. Watching Cooper breathe life into Maria Callas through her body movements, her speech, her accent, her elocution and most important of all, her singing voice, and I must say Shelley Cooper has a beautiful, stunning, singing voice.
What I didn't like
This show is pure perfection, beautifully written with such simplicity and a character beautifully performed by Shelley Cooper, who was fully committed to her portrayal of Maria Callas and telling her story.
My overall impression
I can see why “La Divina” was chosen as a “Pick of the Fringe” in the 2021 Hollywood Fringe Festival! This show is absolutely exquisite.
