What I liked

Her brutal honesty. The short segments. Her infectious spirit. Humor in the face of heartbreak. Fabulous hair color. Her acting in the the heartbreaking scenes – give the woman her Tony already!

What I didn't like

I may be in the minority, but McCartney is overrated, sorry Jo, but you do like honesty. A bit of confusion on the Yeti scene – takes a while to realize it is her dog’s perspective. Same with the finale – could be tinkered with to make it clearer to the audience that there are three alternative potential endings.

My overall impression

This was a phenomenal show. It takes serious gumption to come out in front of a full house solo and kill it. Jo Dellapina bares her heart and soul and somehow pulled it off. She balances gut-wrenching heartbreak with laugh out loud moments. She held my attention for the full hour plus performance, not an easy task in the modern world. This was a brutally honest look at the damage done to one woman (and likely all women) by society and worse, her own mother. The finale crystalized the choice she ultimately had to face. Wait long enough and it will all turn out wonderful (yeah, nice fantasy) or wallow in deserved self-pity (the choice many make). Jo took the middle ground. Work through your shit, accept the role others play in tearing you down, including people who should never tear you down, and say f’ that, I’m ultimately in charge of my own ride, and as imperfect as it is, I’m choosing LOVE. Bravo!!!
