A preshow smorgasbord of viral videos helped to frame the experience: a fractured retelling of urban myths through two everywomen who suffer various fates of so many foolish strangers of urban myth. The show is full of great characters presented by the actors, but as an absurdist piece, it can be challenging to follow what's going on. I didn't particularly care for the "shock" of the piece. I often find work deliberately designed to shock often seems somewhat tame, perhaps because the experience is framed as excessive. I've often been more shocked by work that clearly articulates a framework of internal consistency, then horribly perverts that world. This is not typically the kind of theatre I frequent nor would I say that I'm well-versed in the genre. However, I still really enjoyed the piece. I felt as though all three actors were consistent and committed- definitely the most talented of the five Fringe shows I've seen so far. Not only are they talented and experienced but they are committed to this difficult genre. "Urban Myths-Suburban Sluts" leaves you deconstructing the American landscape and what we call 'popular culture'.
