My overall impression
A preshow smorgasbord of viral videos helped to frame the experience: a fractured retelling of urban myths through two everywomen who suffer various fates of so many foolish strangers of urban myth. The show is full of great characters presented by the actors, but as an absurdist piece, it can be challenging to follow what’s going on.
I didn’t particularly care for the “shock” of the piece. I often find work deliberately designed to shock often seems somewhat tame, perhaps because the experience is framed as excessive. I’ve often been more shocked by work that clearly articulates a framework of internal consistency, then horribly perverts that world. Without such a construct, we witness a series of disjointed events, liberated from causality. I don’t think “random” pieces are without merit, but as a considered presentation, the result of throwing a bunch of disconnected bits at the audience is a piece that leaves something to be desired.
