The montage of images in the background was a nice continual aspect of the show even between sets. The costume choices worked well as did the placement and metaphorical nature of props.
What I didn't like
Sound quality online was a little rough. Music and voice over was very loud and it was difficult to hear the actors in between often which could be frustrating because I feel their words were poignant and I did not want to miss any of the story line. Some of the periphery character were too flat/ 2 dimensional or characatured and left a feeling of exaggerated victim/perpetrator. More depth would have been nice to see.
My overall impression
Sugar and Shit was at times uncomfortable to watch and the content was heavy while having moments throughout that evoke nervous laughs and compassion for the characters or even anger toward the people who treated them as “less than”. The workshop after the show was a delightful and inspiring addition. Thank you for the experience and vulnerably sharing your stories!
