I especially enjoyed how the playwright, Somebody Jones, transitions between topics seamlessly and allows the actors to find their space for laughter, frustration, enthusiastic nods, and painful reflections, over the course of 40 minutes without any one moment feeling unnatural.
What I didn't like
None, this was a thoughtful way to adapt theater into a virtual space.
My overall impression
An excellent, engaging play that weaves in the real interviews of Black women in long-term relationships with white men into a Zoom hang out with friends. The play allows for the audience to feel like a voyeur into a close knit group, and the format of Vimeo is a great tool to ensure video quality and encourage you to grab a glass of wine as you join. Great writing, acting, directing/editing, this is one that I’m looking forward to seeing how this is adapted back to stage.
