SHIRA HIME RYU: A STORY OF A WHITE LADY DRAGON
Performed, Choreographed & Concept by Yokko (Butoh Medea)
Music Composed by César Dávila-Irizarry (American Horror Story)

Shira Hime Ryu: a story of a white lady dragon explores Time & Space, and Dream & Memory. This is a collaboration between Yokko and César Dávila-Irizarry (American Horror Story). The story is inspired by a dream Yokko had and Japanese Dragon Legend. The white dragon is associated with water and honored and revered for both its destructive and life-giving force. Unmarried older women are believed to be cursed because of sins they made in their previous lives, and sometimes called “dragon women” who are possessed by dragon deities. She serves the water deity now; yet, carries memories in her.

REVIEW of Shira Hime Ryu
“Yokko’s nightmarish transformation from meek and vulnerable to fiendish and foul and painted a ghoulishly satisfying portrait displaying twisted terror and darkness in ways rarely encountered on stage.” – Cindy Sibilsky, Broadway World
