The play has adapted the myth of Sleeping Beauty in order to tell the story of a young immigrant woman who is confronted by the aspects of herself that she chose to push away and keep hidden, due to the cultural and social stigma’s related to those characteristics and experiences. We follow her as she becomes conscious of how her family and society have all kept aspects of themselves hidden and how this has manifested into unresolved emotional baggage that effects the family generationally. The young woman is then forced to decide if she will take the chance and “Wake Up” to her true self, or if she will continue to remain asleep to those aspects of herself and thus curse her unborn daughter with the same fate. The play will be performed in Russian and in Persian for the Russian and Iranian communities of Los Angeles County.
