Based off of the real disaster you’ve never heard of, our full length play The Great Molasses Flood of 1919 is a perfect example of what happens when profit is valued over safety, and when capitalism is valued over human life. On a cold day in January, a quickly thrown together tank erected and filled on Boston’s North End explodes, shooting a 35 foot tidal wave of 2,300,000 gallons of Molasses in all directions at 35 mph; resulting in 21 deaths, 150+ serious injuries, and millions of dollars worth of damage. Everything was sticky for years.

The piece is most akin to the work of Brecht, and features workers on strike as members of a worker’s chorus, movement pieces, an original score, a barbershop quartet, and of course: a great flood of molasses.

There will be smoke and strobe effects, as well as explicit language. Not suitable for young children.

This is a creation of ensemble theater, a product of a collection of people as a group.
