After a successful run at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2019, and Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival 2020, including sold out shows, How Gay am I? is at the Hollywood Fringe – glitterier and gayer than ever! Starring queermedian, Sunanda, expect an extra-VAG-anza overflowing with all the entertainment and emotion of a Bollywood movie, but on a festival time schedule!
Sunanda’s debut solo show is a mix of heartfelt storytelling, quirky sketch, original song, salacious dances, ‘enlightening’ presentations, and even some audience interaction. The journey begins with a sincere story of how she came out to her conservative Indian parents, and ends with everyone in the audience going home gay! Sunanda has often thought about all the ways to ‘be gay’, how gay she really is (87% is her official answer), and whether it’s acceptable anymore to call someone ‘gay’ …like she did in the nineties.
“Tender, fun, and intimidating as hell – Sunanda is paradoxically both disarming and skilled at keeping her audience on the edge of their seats.”
- Weekend Notes
“Alongside her comedic flair, Sunanda displays genuine emotional depth… that strikes a good balance of absurdity and honesty.”
- My Melbourne Arts
