The production I plan to present would be a one woman show best presented in a black box or intimate theater. The set would consist of many, many white plastic bags and not much else. The performer emerges from a mound of plastic bags, bathed in blue light, ready to tell her story. From this point on the performer moves in and out of traditional storytelling, using monologues and song to speak on family history, intergenerational trauma and personal pains. The story telling is interspersed with audience interaction moments where they are asked direct questions and expected to answer them. Discussion is not shied away from. In some instances, they are even asked to come up and participate. The work effortless jumps from light to dark and from personal to political. As the performer works through her emotional baggage as well as the literal bags on the stage, she offers up gifts to the audience. Literally passing her baggage on to the viewers so that they leave with a different perspective and an object to serve not only as a reminder of their experience but also as an inspiration to serve the greater community at large.
