I wasn't sure what to expect when I went to see "Gospel of a Teenage Jesus", but I can say it went over and beyond any expectations I could have had. Possibly one of the most clever and humorous takes on the Bible that I've ever seen. Let's just be honest, where else do you get to see God being portrayed as a womanizing, sleazy absent father,Mother Mary as a scorned and bitter woman, pissed off at God for leaving her after the best night of her life and Joseph as a bumbling fool? Then you have 14 year old Jesus caught at a crossroads, deciding on a life of carpentary or ruling the world. Fantastic--it's rare in LA to see theater with quality performances, that alone warrants 5 stars for Gospel, but add to that an inventive re-imagining of early Christian book distribution and a tight, leave-you-wanting-more production and I wish there were more stars....
